Days Court is in Session: Monday – Friday from 9:30 am-5:00 pm: different judges keep their own schedules The Hinds County Justice Court has jurisdiction over both civil actions concerning amounts of money $3,500 or less and misdemeanor criminal charges that take place outside of the city limits. Should a traffic offense be committed outside the Jackson city limits, Hinds County Justice Court would hold a hearing dealing with this matter.
A civil case is one in which two or more people have a disagreement over a matter. A criminal case, on the other hand, occurs between the State of Mississippi and a person who is accused of committing a misdemeanor crime outside the city of Jackson. Jackson lies just south of Ridgeland and east of Flowood and Pearl. If you are accused of a civil problem $3,500 or less or a misdemeanor or traffic offense outside the municipality of Jackson your initial appearance will be held in Hinds County Justice Court. Bond hearings and preliminary hearings in felony criminal cases may also be heard by the Justice Court judge formally known as Justices of the Peace.
Hinds County Constables have primary jurisdiction over arrests that are taken to Hinds County Justice Court. The Mississippi Highway Patrol along with the Hinds County Sheriff’s Department can also make arrests in this area. If you have questions about your court date or about the procedures of Hinds County Justice Court, you can all the Court Clerk or the Deputy Court Clerk.
