DePuy Hip Implants Recalled and Other Hip Implants Questioned
Consumers in Jackson, Clinton, Hinds County, Ridgeland, The City of Madison, Madison County, Flowood, Pearl, Brandon, Rankin County, and other places in Mississippi should be alert to the hip implant recalls. Failure to take action and protect your legal rights could leave anyone who had an implant without fair and adequate legal remedies. The company DePuy has sent out recall notices but there are many consumers who have not received the notices. In addition to talking with your surgeon it is also suggested that the patients who have these implants obtain blood tests for the presences of metal in their blood stream.
The Food and Drug Administration has directed that all the producers of "metal on metal" hip implants conduct addition testing to determine if these types of hip implants are causing small pieces of metal to come lose and injure consumers. In addition patients have been reporting constant pain and damage to the soft tissues around their hips. There has been heightened awareness over these problems since the company DePuy announced a recall of their ASR brand.
Metal on metal hip implants are typically made out of metals like cobalt and chromium. There are approximately 250,000 hip implants every year in the United States and metal on metal are used in approximately 1/3 of the cases. At the present time no one knows how many of these hip implants are defective and will need to be removed from the patients.
Artificial hips are designed to last approximately 15 years but patients began experiencing problems with the metal on metal implants within 5 years. DePuy is a subsidiary or division of Johnson & Johnson. Other hip implants companies include Zimmer, Stryker, Biomet and Wright Medical.
At Coxwell & Associates, PLLC we are investigating the following hip implant cases: DePuy ASR, DePuy Pinnacle Cup with Ultamet (metal) liner, Stryker Trident with revision, and Zimmer Durom Cup. Our litigation group has already filed actions to help consumers who have suffered harms and losses due to these defective products. Harms and losses can include items like loss of the enjoyment of life, pain and suffering, anxiety and stress, additional medical bills, lost wages, and other types of injuries.
It is important to remember if you are a person with an implant that you deserved a quality, well-constructed implant. When you pay for an implant it is reasonable to expect that the implant was adequately tested and free from major design and development defects. The patients who received these implants tell us that the surgery is extremely painful. It is not fair that the patients have to have new implants so soon after their initial surgeries.
If you have a DePuy hip implant or one of the other implants described in this article, contact Merrida (Buddy) Coxwell at Coxwell & Associates, PLLC in Jackson, Hinds County, Mississippi, for a free consultation.
