THE CITY OF MADISON, MADISON COUNTY, MISSISSIPPI
The City of Madison sits next to Ridgeland. Madison has a population of 16,930. It was named for President Madison. While there is a large Wal Mart and other stores by the interstate The City of Madison does not have the extensive shopping malls and outdoor shopping centers that are located in Ridgeland. The City of Madison boasts a collection of unique, small boutique shops, antique shops, and pottery stores. The City of Madison is presently becoming a desired location for numerous medical providers. The area at the intersection of Highway 463 and Highland Colony already has several large medical building and a multitude of buildings filled with professionals and banking establishments.
The City of Madison is considered more of a "bedroom community" than Ridgeland. Throughout the history of Madison's development the City has kept tight control over the both the residential and commercial development. While real estate developers have frequently complained about the strict controls imposed by the City it is these controls that have made The City of Madison such a sought after community for families. In 2007 The City of Madison was selected by the magazine the Family Circle as one of the ten (10) towns for families. The City of Madison has an excellent school system and in 2010 Tulane University opened a satellite campus in The City of Madison. The City of Madison has quite a few premier neighborhoods such as Annandale, St. Ives, and Reunion.
