Personal Injury

Mississippi Personal Injury Lawyer

If you have suffered injury due to the negligence of another person, you may be at a particularly low point in your life right now. You may be struggling to recover from your injuries, and struggling financially, particularly if your injuries are severe enough to result in time away from work. While you may feel as though you have nowhere to turn, in fact, with one phone call, you could have an incredibly strong ally in your corner.

Coxwell & Associates can provide you with a highly experienced personal injury attorney who will ensure your rights are protected, will work hard to obtain the compensation you are entitled to, and who has compassion for your current situation. At Coxwell & Associates, while understanding the physical pain resulting from your injury, we are equally aware of the emotional and financial hardships you may be experiencing.

You may see your medical bills—as well as your regular monthly bills—begin to mount alarmingly, and you may even be missing out on life’s regular enjoyments because of the chronic pain you must now endure. While your situation is unique, you are likely entitled to compensation for the injuries and damages you are suffering which are the result of another’s negligence.

How Long Do I Have to File a Personal Injury Claim in Mississippi?

According to Title 15, Ch. 1, Sec. 15-1-49 of the Mississippi Code, the statute of limitations for personal injury cases in the state of Mississippi is three years. The statute of limitations is a law which limits how long an individual has to file a claim before they lose their legal right to do so.

More specifically, this means you have three years from the date your injury was inflicted to file your claim, or you will almost certainly lose your right to file, which essentially means your right to pursue compensation. It’s important to note that there are exceptions that can change this three time limit. An attorney can inform you of your specific rights and options.

The statute of limitations has a big impact on your ability to file a claim so it’s important to speak to a member of our legal team about the specifics of your case as soon as you can. Coxwell & Associates offers free, no-obligation consultations so you have nothing to lose by contacting our firm today!

Do I Need a  Personal Injury Attorney?

You may have heard from acquaintances that you don’t really need an experienced personal injury attorney, rather can handle your case yourself. Aside from the many deadlines (statutes of limitations) you would have to know—and meet—and the significant amount of legal knowledge you would have to acquire in a relatively short amount of time, consider the following: personal injury victims who have an attorney by their side typically receive a considerably larger settlement, even factoring in the attorney’s fees.

During a personal injury case, witnesses must be consulted and subpoenaed, insurance companies dealt with, and scores of evidence gathered. It would be very difficult to accomplish all these tasks if you had no injuries, but trying to do so when you are recovering from serious injury can be an insurmountable task.

  • $144 Million Death and punitive damages
  • $120 Million Injuries from dangerous drugs
  • $20.4 Million Fraud settlement that went to Mississippians
  • $2.3 Million Brain injury settlement
  • $2.1 Million Civil rights death
  • $1.6 Million Fraud settlement for Mississippians
