School Bus Safety in Jackson
While school buses are designed to safely transport children from home to school and back again, they’re not totally without risk. Distracted drivers and even careless bus drivers can put child occupants at risk for injury or death. It may or may not be surprising to parents that the most dangerous part of taking the bus to and from school isn’t actually riding on the bus. It’s getting on and off of the bus. Getting hit or run over by a bus or another car is the greatest risk to children who take the bus.

The Danger Zone

The 10-foot zone all around the bus is considered the “Danger Zone.” Bus drivers may have limited visibility when children are in this area. This is also the area where other motorists might hit children, as they’re getting ready to get on the bus. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) offers parents and their children a variety of great tips for improving safety when getting on, getting off and riding the bus to school.

After a School Bus Accident

After any kind of automobile or school bus accident, it’s a good idea to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney. Even seemingly minor accidents can result in traumatic brain injuries and other types of injuries. A medical evaluation and treatment of injuries needs to be your first step after a school bus accident.

The whole team at Coxwell & Associates, PLLC wishes the students full and speedy recoveries from their injuries.
